Once you arrived in the UK, you will be relegated as a Band 3 which is a Healthcare Assistant while waiting for your NMC PIN. You will have to take the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) within 12 weeks from the employment start date noted on the Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). OSCE has 6 stations. The first 4 stations test your knowledge on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation and this will involve acting out scenarios and the last 2 stations test your clinical skills.

Your trust will have a team of educators to help you prepare for the OSCE. They will set up practice rooms to be used for simulation and help you practice different skills. The bible of OSCE is the Royal Marsden. Study it by heart and practice everyday until you live and breathe OSCE.

You will only be given 3 attempts to pass the exam. Do not dread OSCE though for many people have passed it with flying colors. If they can do it, why can’t you? Once you pass the exam and get your PIN you will become a Band 5 which is a qualified Registered Nurse in the UK.

Good luck on your preparation for OSCE. You can do it!
